It all began about 3 years ago. I was feeling tired and sleepy all the time. Also I started noticing kinda heavy feeling after my morning coffee.
Let me explain, my morning routine consists in 2-3 big mugs of freshly brewed coffee with a little bit of milk. I don’t like 2%, 1%, fat free milk. It is not that I drink gallons, so I go for my full fat milk.
After some time I also started having little dizziness. It would last seconds but was very unpleasant. I was worried but could not see consistency, my blood test came out perfect, my annual check up came perfect.
One night we had a cheese board for dinner. Next day I woke up and after my morning coffee I started feeling very bad. Lets see if I can explain, it wasn’t that much of the bloating sensation but dizziness like when you overdo some tequila shots… the feeling was so ugly that I didn’t eat anything for 2,5 days and was only drinking water.
I got better and decided to try lactose free milk.
I tried all types of milk substitutes before and honestly didn’t like any of them so lactose free option was just perfect for me.
Couple of months later we moved next to Whole Foods market. You know moving can be stressful and time consuming and the least you want to do is to cook. So we went downstairs and I got a bowl of a wonderful New England chowder, and it was so good and tasty that I got it next day too. The effect didnt happend right away but maybe an hour later. That dizzy feeling, pressure on inside the head, it was horrible. This is how I found out I became lactose intolerant.
One of my observations is that a good Italian or French cheese doesn’t have this effect on me. Goat cheese also goes very smooth (and boy, do I love myself some goat cheese) but don’t even show me a cheddar…
Already several years into it and I still forget sometimes about the damaging effect of processed cheese on my body and get something like butter, mashed potato or even a creamy cake.
To finish this post I would like to invite you to listen to your body. If something is not right there should be a reason for that. It is better to catch a problem at the beginning and remedy it.
